1923 STAR $ 1 Silver Certificate ERROR PMG 35 # 970

This is a VERY RARE ERROR STAR NOTE! We are offering a 1923 $ 1 Silver Certificate. Star notes are very rare in their own right. It carries added rarity and appeal, making it a prized collectible for numismatists and history enthusiasts alike. The STAR signifies a “replacement note”.

This note also features a low serial number. It only has 7 digits as compared to 8. So now you have three collectible factors on this note.

The note features an open number “0”, which looks like the letter “C” on the top right serial number. The bottom left serial number is *6074970 D and the top left serial number is *607497C D. This was caused by insufficient inking on the last number as it was being printed.

When The Bureau of Engraving and Printing or BEP prints a sheet of notes and they are damaged in any way, the notes must be destroyed. By law, they need to print notes bearing the damaged serial numbers. When they print the new notes, they must bear a STAR in front of the serial number. This designates the note as a “replacement note”. The STAR Notes are far more valuable than a regular printed note.
