1878 S Morgan Dollar Bag Fragment NGC Briliant Uncirculated # 254

Being offered today is an 1878 S (San Francisco) Morgan Dollar coin graded by NGC in Mint State Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) condition. This was the FIRST DATE OF ISSUE for the Morgan Dollar series! This coin is 146 years old.

This Morgan Dollar is part of the highly collectable “Original Bag Fragment” series. The holder features an original period bag fragment from the U.S. Mint. This series sold out in less than a week when it was released. You don’t see these very often, as they were issued in a limited run.

The original mint bags were very hard to find in good condition and most of the bag was damaged. So, when the bags were cut for the coin holders, there wasn’t much usable fabric. Which created the rarity for this series.

An authentic period piece U.S. Mint bag is hard to find in its own right and command a high premium on its own.
