How are these mounted in the coats?

The Torch Coat Heater mounts to your jacket by means of a sticky backed Velcro pad. The Velcro pads sticks to your jacket liner, and then the Torch Coat Heater attaches to the Velcro. This allows the Coat Heater to be removed and transferred to other jackets. The package comes with two sets of Velcro pads so that you may use the Torch Coat Heater in two jackets. Additional Velcro kits are sold separately.

How long does it take to recharge the battery and are extra batteries available?

The battery takes about 3-4 hours to charge. And yes, additional batteries are available on the Anseris Heated Clothing website. (www.anseris.com)
