Pre-Columbian. Ancient Mexico, c. 1000 - 1500 AD. A great Tarascan ceramic rattle head vessel with well-modeled features and wearing ear spools, a shallow bowl sits atop his head, the exterior of which nicely incised with geometric motifs. The interior of the vessel is hollow and contains beans or similar to serve as rattles (that can still be heard), the exterior retaining a nice red slip beneath light deposits.
