Provincial Rome. Marcus Aurelius, as Caesar, AD 139-161 AD. Excellent bronze Triassarion coin struck at Pautalia, Thrace, 157-158 AD. The front depicts the bareheaded, draped, and cuirassed bust of Marcus Aurelius right, seen from behind / The back depicts the River-god Strymon reclining left on rocks, holding branch and reed. 25mm, 9.98 g. ref: Tachev Pautalia 11 (O6/R10); Ruzicka 24; RPC IV.1 4041; Varbanov 4430 for type. Dark brown patina, minor marks. VF. From the Dr. Michael Slavin Collection, purchased from Tom Cederlind, 22 April 2005; ex CNG.
