The front depicts the helmeted head of Athena facing right / The back shows the classical Owl standing right, head facing, closed tail feathers; olive sprig and crescent to left; Greek ΑΘΕ (“ATHENS”) to right, all all within incuse square border. Measures 23mm, weighs 16.72 grams. Coin reference: Kroll 8; HGC 4, 1597 for type. Ancient bankers' countermarks and test cuts! Grades Fine. Ex Classical Numismatic Group (CNG). *** These coins funded the building of the Acropolis and Parthenon in Athens, as well as funding the Peloponnesian War (431-404 BC) between Athens and Sparta.
