Ancient Egypt, Middle Kingdom to New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty (2040-1293 BC), fantastic and large wooden figure of a scribe. He is depicted kneeling cross-legged, the bottoms of his feet visible under his thighs. He wears a classic Egyptian kilt and wig, with nicely rendered, expressive facial features. H: 6.625”. Ex collection of H. Ryder Haggard, author of "King Solomon's Mines" and "She", collected by him in Egypt, tag on base dated Feb. 1921. Ex Argosy Art & Artifacts, purchased from 4/20/85.
